PASTOR’S MESSAGE
FAMILY- 1
SUNDAY 6TH MAY 2018

Family is God’s idea, it is a divine institution ordained by God. The family institution is the first and oldest human institution. It is the bedrock of any society and the closest form of relationship.

In a healthy society there are strong family values. Family offers companionship, it offers necessary support for individuals. It is a source of strength and encouragement. Family is an institution where individuals naturally take responsibility for one another.

Family offers a place for mentoring. It provides opportunities for nurturing and care. It is the fundamental place where instruction, training and discipline occur. People talk about ‘lack of home training’ when a grown up person lacks basic etiquette. It is the first environment every individual is exposed to. It is where core character values are formed. Family offers a place of provision.

“But if someone doesn’t provide for their own family, and especially for a member of their household, they have denied the faith. They are worse than those who have no faith.” 1 Timothy 5:8 CEB

An old adage says that charity begins at home. For an individual to manifest love outside the home, he ought to either have experienced it within the family or would have expressed it first in the family. In other words, by and large, good people are a product of good homes. More often than not, bad people mirror the condition of the home or family they came from. It takes deliberate or intentional effort to build a family that is functional.

To make a family retain its original concept and play its pivotal role, every constituent member has unique roles to play. It is when everyone in the family commit themselves to their responsibilities that the family becomes functional and fit for purpose. Families today are faced with increasing numbers of challenges. This ranges from utter neglect to misplaced priorities. So many today have neglected their responsibilities either due to selfishness or misplaced priorities.

Family should take priority over career or pursuit of money or pleasure. Selfishness not only destroys families, it discourages people from starting a family, and even when they get involved, they soon become absent or run away individual. In the world today, we are either career or pleasure driven, this is exerting tremendous pressure on families. The devil is also fighting families relentlessly. We must therefore awake, rise up and defend our individual families.

“And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.” Nehemiah 4:14 KJV

Our goal must be to restore the sanctity of families. To achieve it, all hands have to be on deck. It is our collective responsibility. The future of our different communities depend on the state of our family today. In order to restore order, peace and safety to our streets, schools etc, we have to start from the home. The nobles and rulers have to formulate policies that are family friendly. Everyone has to take responsibility for this.

Our communities and everyone has to return to God. Let us go back to the manufacturer and take to His manual- The Bible. We all must see this as the only way forward. God will grant us the grace that we need as we decide to commit to the course of restoring our families.

God bless you!
