“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”- Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
The excellent Spirit is the Holy Spirit of God that He gives to His children. The excellent Spirit is the Spirit of God in us. He is the Spirit that God Himself shares in common with all His Children.
So, just as God is Spirit, man also is a Spirit that dwells in a body and has a soul. What gives God His nature of goodness is the excellent Spirit of God, and what gives Satan his nature of evil is the evil spirit in Satan. What produces the character you manifest is the type of spirit that is at work in you.
The excellent Spirit produces the kind of fruit in us which distinguishes us. For this to happen, you and I must live a life that is Spirit controlled, not flesh controlled. That is, the Holy Spirit having dominion over the flesh in our lives.
Spiritual growth involves the flesh dying, and the Holy Spirit growing in us daily. Such a life will not seek to gratify the desires of the flesh or body. The excellent Spirit in us makes us supernatural, He makes us extraordinary in character, and not just in charisma alone.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, so God is love. God is an embodiment of the Spirit in Him. So you and I must embody love.
A tree is known by the fruit it bears. In order words, the fruit reveals the name and identity of the tree to us. The distinguishing factor that differentiates trees is the types of fruits they bear. It is the fruits the tree bears that attracts people to it. The fruit a tree bears determines the value placed on it.
In fact, what determines people’s attitude to a tree, (i.e. whether to destroy it or to nurture it) is whether it bears fruit or not, and if it does, is the fruit beneficial or a nuisance.
Therefore, as Christians, the type of character we manifest or fruit we bear will determine how people will relate to us, and how they regard us. What more, the influence we bear on people is determined by the type of fruit we bear, we can either attract people or repel them. The proof of your spirituality is your character. If you are full of the Spirit of God, then you must be full of God’s character.
Love is the fruit that the excellent Spirit bears. Love that flows from the heart (that is, the Spirit)! The God’s kind of love. The love that is shown in spite of the attitude or shortcomings of others, the love that is not deserving.
This love is characterised by joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness gentleness and self control. Any love that lacks any of these virtues is not the true love.
Our individual lives will be a blessing to others if we manifest the fruit of the Spirit, our lives will glorify God and draw people to Him if we have Christ-like character.
Remember, the fruit we bear or the character we manifest is not a gift, it is the result of subduing the works of the flesh in our lives and allowing the Holy Spirit to take control.
God bless you.
