“I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments. But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.””- Daniel 3:15-18 (NLT)
People that have the excellent Spirit of God in them live an uncompromising life. Their lifestyle, speech and conduct do not conform to the way of the world. More importantly, they have a tendency not to flow with societal trends when such do not conform to the way of life of the Spirit of God in them.
The excellent Spirit within us gives us a deep conviction. These convictions are fundamental, they create our uniqueness, they reflect in everything we do, and they give us a consistency of character. The excellent Spirit creates a niche for us. He makes us strong in our belief and therefore in our actions. He makes us not to be pleasers of men, or yield to human and societal pressure.
The excellent Spirit enables us to stand for what we believe in, and not to be afraid of the consequences. The consequences may range from being isolated to being ostracised; it may mean being denied your legitimate rights or being deprived of your privileges.
It may mean being inappropriately labelled as unsociable or old fashioned. And as we see in the case of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, the consequences may mean being treated as ‘enemy of the state’ deserving imprisonment or punishment by death.
The excellent Spirit determines what you yield or submit to. He determines who or what you worship. He determines the association you have or the friends you keep. He determines the authority you allow over your life.
He does not permit living a double standard life or being two-faced; that is, to have a public face and a private face. He makes you to be in control of yourself and your actions, without allowing peer pressure to control and determine your lifestyle.
The excellent Spirit makes you exhibit absolute confidence in God. He gives you inner strength to always seek to please God. This attitude in turn, provokes God’s manifested presence with you. It makes God arise to defend you, to help you and support you. When we stand up for God, He will stand up for us, and He turns us into people of phenomenal influence in our community. God makes us an effective witness for Him, He transforms us into change agents.
Without doubt, the excellent Spirit brings us a unique and iconic recognition. This attitude of deciding to give our body, soul and Spirit in unalloyed loyalty to God brings us to a position of honour before the whole community, it makes us to influence and lead our generation to God.
So, my brothers and sisters, the majority do not always win, the minority can also win; especially as we stand for God. Therefore, we should not be afraid or intimidated if our faith in God puts us in the minority; we may soon be in the majority by maintaining our stand in God, and through those we shall win over to our God.
God bless you.
