“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”- Ephesians 6:10-11

It is a common knowledge and a painful one indeed that people are subject to diverse limitations. The good news is that God can remove every limitation that may be upon anyone. There are various factors that could cause impairment to human life and destiny. Many of these factors are a result of circumstances outside the control of an individual. They include our diverse backgrounds, our family conditions, our race, etc.

Even though, it is true that the circumstances of our birth do not determine the outcome of our lives. There is a need to confront head-on, issues that have propensity to limit us. Change must start with us, we have to initiate any change we want in our lives, and we have to know what to do to bring about the change.

“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.”- 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NIV)

Jabez knew he was limited due to the curse upon him, he was determined to remove this disadvantage from his life. Although he could not help himself, He knew God could. He knew God can do anything; He could remove the negative influence and circumstances that have been limiting him. He intentionally approached God, for help; rather than engaging in blame game, he sought for solution, he sought for a breakthrough, he sought for freedom.

We all individually need to come to a point in our lives when we reflect on the realities our lives. We then critically and truthfully analyse them by asking the right questions. We do not pass the buck to other people but take the bull by the horns. We make no excuses for our challenges or unfavourable circumstances, but determine to turn our challenges to success.

Turning to God is a positive and always productive step available to all humanity to take; and if we do it with all our hearts, the results will be the same; “And God granted him that which he requested”. God will always respond to our cry for liberty, for success and blessing; and He will just as He did with Jabez, make us all become honourable.

The principle is the same at all times, in all circumstances and in all ages; whatever you tolerate, you cannot change. Until Esau became “restless”, he could break free from the yoke upon his life.

“You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.”- Genesis 27:40 (NIV)

Jacob became Israel only after being desperate for a limitless life, the life God reserved for him by covenant, he prevailed on God to bless him, and God blessed him indeed and made him a blessing.
